We Did Not Make a Summer Bucket List—And We’re Still Alive

Look, It Started With Good Intentions…
Back in late May, we had energy. We had hope. We had a color-coded summer bucket list saved to our phones—or maybe even printed and stuck to the fridge with optimism and washi tape. It had categories like “Outdoor Fun,” “Educational Adventures,” and “Family Bonding.”
Fast forward to August and… we did none of it.
Unless “Outdoor Fun” means chasing your kid with sunscreen while yelling, “We are already LATE!,” and “Educational Adventures” involves Googling “How long can a child play Roblox before their brain melts?”
Spoiler Alert: We’re Still Here
Despite not checking off a single item from that Pinterest-inspired masterpiece, guess what? We’re still alive. Our kids are still alive. And somewhere along the way, there were memories.
Just maybe not the ones you planned.
Instead of family picnics with homemade snacks, maybe you had car lunches between errands. Instead of elaborate backyard science experiments, maybe your kids learned the chemical reaction between sunscreen and sidewalk chalk.
And you know what? That counts.
Summer Isn’t a Productivity Contest
The myth of the perfect summer bucket list is just that—a myth. It’s okay if your biggest victory this summer was keeping everyone in relatively clean clothes and remembering which day the garbage truck comes.
Moms, you showed up. Maybe not in full glam with matching swimsuits and healthy snacks—but in the real, tired, doing-your-best-every-dang-day kind of way. And that matters more than any checklist ever could.
So What If…
You didn’t take a road trip.
You didn’t make a single popsicle from scratch.
You didn’t do the museum, the water park, the nature scavenger hunt, or the DIY fairy garden.
You gave your kids a summer. Not an Instagram summer. A real one.
And that’s enough.
