Can My Baby Use a Blanket? | Gunapod Giveaway | Luxury Bamboo Baby Duvet

Gunapod momcave sleep sack giveaway

My babies have always worn sleep sacks for as long as possible. My mother and older aunts found this odd–babies in their generation used good old blankets. But, there’s science behind this! (See, mom?) The American Academy of Pediatrics put out a statement on the safest practices for infant sleep, in order to prevent SIDS. (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)

AAP recommendations on creating a safe sleep environment include:

  • Place the baby on his or her back on a firm sleep surface such as a crib or bassinet with a tight-fitting sheet.
  • Avoid use of soft bedding, including crib bumpers, blankets, pillows and soft toys. The crib should be bare.
  • Share a bedroom with parents, but not the same sleeping surface, preferably until the baby turns 1 but at least for the first six months. Room-sharing decreases the risk of SIDS by as much as 50 percent.
  • Avoid baby’s exposure to smoke, alcohol and illicit drugs.

So, the answer to, “Should my baby use a blanket” is definitely NO.

But, no worries. I’m not one to present a problem without a solution. I have a new favorite “sleep sack.” It’s more than a sleep sack, actually. It’s a “Luxury Bamboo Duvet” for babies by Gunamuna.

Machine washable, with a four-way zip for easy diaper access, it’s like down comforter that a baby can wear. And, it’s adorable. I wish they made one in grown-up sizes. I’ve been cuddling my daughter is her Gunapod and it’s sooooo soft.
