The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak
This pictureless book will have your kids laughing, as they watch you struggle and stumble through quirky lines, such as “Blurff”. Filled with funny sound effects and silly songs, you will ultimately be forced to submit to its funny charms and have a fantastic experience reading it with your child.
Snappsy The Alligator (Did Not Ask To Be In This Book!) by Julie Falatko
Snappsy is an alligator who is just trying to go to the shops, follow the rules, and have a perfectly ordinary day. Until the narrator decides that he should make Snappsy’s life a bit more interesting by making up new truths about Snappsy’s life and blowing his actions wildly out of proportion. The character interaction in this book is both witty and smart and is definitely fun to read.
There’s A Monster In Your Book by Tom Fletcher
“Whilst you might be tempted to avoid telling your kids that there’s a monster somewhere in their room just before bedtime, this gem of a book might tempt you to reconsider,” says Evelyn Rhymer, an educator at Paperfellows and Stateofwriting. “Not only is it a fun and engaging read, but it is also interactive. Your kids will love having to tickle, shake and wiggle the monster out of the book. Chances are, by the end of the book, they will be tired out and ready for bed.”
Be Quiet! By Ryan T. Higgins
If you’ve ever told a child that they must be quiet, then you know that it is one of the surest ways to give them the giggles. Rupert is a mouse who wants nothing more than to star in an artistic wordless picture book. His friends, however, have other ideas. Between Rupert’s growing frustration and his friends’ interruptions, you will find yourself laughing (and none too quietly) at this engaging story in our list of funny books to read with kids.
The Day The Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers
This is the equally funny and charming sequel to the very entertaining, ‘The Day The Crayons Quit’. As you might expect, each crayon has its own sad tale to tell. In this book, Duncan must rescue them from the misfortunes each crayon has had to endure, like getting stuck in the sofa. It is their reunion, back in their box at home, that will keep you reading till the very end.
I’m Bored by Michael Ian Black
How often have you heard your child say, “I’m bored”? Well, that is precisely what happens in this entertaining book by comedian Michael Ian Black. A bored little girl meets a talking potato, but her excitement is dashed when the potato declares that “kids are boring.” In a wonderful and comical twist, proving the power of reverse psychology, the little girl sets out to prove the potato wrong.
Boo’s Shoes: A Rabbit and Fox Story by Sybrina Durant
This book is meant to be a parent-child activity. Youngsters can read Boo’s Boo’s Shoes: A Rabbit and Fox Story – Learn To Tie Shoelaces and their parents can help with the how-to-tie instruction pages. A fun shoelace-themed “I Did It” badge is included at the back of the book to give as a reward for conquering this difficult task. This book is just one of a ton of cute and fun options on The Rabbit and Fox Bookstore.
Stuck by Oliver Jeffers
After his kite gets stuck in a tree, Floyd uses an array of increasingly absurd and ridiculous objects to try and get it down, only for them too, to end up stuck in the tree. Be sure to read the funny asides in the illustrations to get the most out of this hilarious book. It’s one of my favorite funny books to read with kids.
Press Here by Herve Tullet
This is a fun and highly interactive book. “It’s like a cross between an app and a book,” says Lisa Wiley, a mom blogger. “It instructs children to clap or press a yellow dot and then, as if by magic, the book does exactly what the kids tell it to! It feels very modern and relevant and is an absolute delight to read!”
We Found A Hat by Jon Klassen
This is the third installment in the very funny hat stories by Jon Klassen. The beauty of this book lies in its simplicity and its fantastic dead-pan humor. The narrative relationship between the text and the visuals will have you giggling to the very end.
Pig The Pug by Aaron Blabey
The front cover alone will have you and your kids laughing, before you’ve even had a chance to open the book. Pig and his bulging eyes will take you on a rhyming tale adventure about his rude and greedy antics. Luckily, there is a moral to be learned after all the laughs have been had.
